Chris and I after 15 yrs………
All tied down and ready for the weekend!
this is looking down the runway as I taxied down to the north end for parking
This is at Spanish Springs. I landed with a 90 degree crosswind and about 10 mph! I am glad it was a dirt runway! Let me skid a little bit.
Shortly after this picture I ran into a thermal that took me up to 10, 500’ MSL! Highest that I have been in that airplane! I think it only took about 30-45 secounds too!
Another personall favorite….this is crossing the Serria Nevadas heading east to Reno, NV
the upper California valley
Lake Shasta…the brown is how far down the water is!
over the top and heading south……
up close and personall with Mt. Shasta
Mt Shasta
Well before I get to involved with the pictures, this is what is going on. I decided that I had a need to get out of the valley for a vacation and originally I was going to fly to Nimpo Lake in Canada with our first turbo STC customer John. As it turned out John had to work at grading for a contract that his company was awarded, so since I had already had the time off I thought it was a prime time to fly to Nevada to see my old Navy buddy Chris. He lives in Reno/Sparks area so when I called him he was totally for it and had the weekend planned before Wednesday, with a baseball game, drinking, concert, drinking, truck race, drinking, hangin out, drinking, BBQ and some more drinking! I had a wonderful time and wished I could’ve stayed longer. A couple of his good buds were there too. It just so happened that his friends are now friends of mine. We all had a good time and even though we were all totaly beat, wished we could have continued.
On Tuesday morning I took off at 6:30am from Spanish Springs airport and flew back to Aurora, OR. It took 6.5 hrs to get down from Aurora, but only took 6.0 hrs to get back. (had a tail wind). The scenery is so beautiful in the NW corner of the USA. I can never grow old of seeing it from the air.
So anyway enjoy the photos that I took and maybe one day we can get together and I’d love to show you the sight that I saw.
The father south I got the clearer it became.
I started out around 9 am Thrusday morning on the 3rd of September. There were a few clouds at about 3500’ MSL but the air was still for the most part until I got down toward Cottage Grove, OR where I bucked a 15 mph head wind. The clouds are like cotton balls…fun to occasionally ram a small one to get the feeling of motion.
